Interesting fact: did you know The Environmental Education Initiative program, developed by the City of Dallas and SERL (Science Education Resource Lab), helps people of all ages understand where water comes from, how we use it, and where it goes? One of the educational components SERL uses is for elementary students, providing hands-on lessons taught by certified teachers. After tracking the program’s success, areas where the elementary-school programs were implemented showed reduced water use, by more than 500 gallons per month, in single-family homes. This adds up to more than 6,000 gallons per year for each home and a total savings of more than 22 million gallons of water per year for the entire target area. Certified Installers take note: Perma-Liner Industries would like to invite you to our Refresher Training (Perma-Lateral™ specific) that will take place on July 12th and 13th at our Clearwater facility!! Please plan on attending. Register by calling 1-866-336-2568 or Click Here! See you...

Preservation of Wetlands and Waterfowl in Dallas

Preservation of Wetlands and Waterfowl in Dallas

Approximately 2.1 million ducks and geese migrate to the Texas Coast each fall and winter. They are attracted to the coastal marshes, inland freshwater wetlands, and harvested rice fields where they feed to acquire nutrients and build up energy reserves. Current data on waterfowl energy demands and food supply produced by available foraging habitat indicate a potential food shortage for much of the Gulf Coast. Wetlands improve the overall health of our environment by recharging and purifying groundwater, moderating floods, reducing soil erosion, and providing recreation. During flood events, the wetlands lower flood risk by providing an efficient path to convey water through the Dallas Floodway System. The most productive and desired vegetation communities in wetlands respond positively following a disturbance. Soil disturbance, such as disking, is the most important management action to promote the growth of desired plants that produce food for waterfowl. Many assistance programs are available for private landowners who are interested in developing and managing wetland habitats on their property. Depending on eligibility, some programs offer cost-share assistance to build and manage wetlands. The Texas Prairie Wetlands Project (TPWP) is a successful cost-share assistance program that develops wetland habitat on private land along the Texas Coast.  The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department offers technical guidance from local biologists to landowners interested in managing wetland habitat on their property. Duncanville’s Cross Connection Control program

Duncanville’s Cross Connection Control program

The purpose of a Cross Connection Control Program is to identify potential cross connections on the public water system and require that the proper backflow prevention device is installed at the potential source.  Duncanville requires Backflow Prevention Devices to be installed by a registered plumber or backflow installer and then tested by certified backflow tester who is registered with the Cross Connection Department. The original test report must be turned into the Cross Connection Department within one business day.  There is also a list of acceptable backflow prevention devices on the USC Foundation website (www.usclist.com). Devices must be approved by the University of Southern California Foundation for Cross Connection Control and Hydraulic Research.  Something to also keep in mind when reviewing the backflow prevention criteria, assemblies shown on the list have been evaluated with a specific set of shutoff valves as an integral part of the assembly. The specific shutoff valves are coded by a parenthetic code shown with each assembly. The coding of shutoff valves is defined specifically. Other shutoff valves having similar performance characteristics which permit the assembly to comply with the standards are also shown immediately after the original shutoff valves. The use of any shutoff valve on a specific assembly, other than those listed for that specific assembly invalidates the approval.  In addition, all commercial backflow devices will be determined based on the type of application and degree of hazard. These devices are required to be tested every year. New Braunfels Sewer Construction Advisory

New Braunfels Sewer Construction Advisory

New Braunfels Utility crews is in the process of rehabilitating the city’s sewer lines this month. Please be advised that if you’re travelling near Post Road, thru-traffic will be re-routed between Gruene Road and Richter Lane during business hours 8am-5pm.  The alternate routes will be accessible and in use for up to a week.  This will allow the workers on the project to have the adequate space to navigate heavy equipment.  The trenchless method of installation used for this enhancement project will be CIPP (cured in place pipeline).  With the use of this technology, the NBU crews are able to invert a resin-saturated felt tube into a damaged pipe and use equipment to cure or harden it in place. Did you know that NBU has many community service initiatives working on your behalf?  This month, on September 26th, residents will be offered an opportunity to properly dispose of medications that are expired or unused. This program is called Operation MedSafe.  This year an additional drop off location will also be available.  The only thing that will not be accepted are disposals in liquid form.  This program helps to reduce the amount of pharmaceuticals that are found in the water systems. Dallas and Houston, SAVE THE DATE!!  Mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss this!  On September 23rd Perma-Liner Industries is hosting a very special event and we’d love to see you!!  We’re having our Open House at our facility in Plainfield, Illinois and it’s sure to be a great time.  We’ll have our excellent staff here to answer all of your questions about Cured-in-Place Pipeline products and our state of the art trenchless technology.  Come out and see live demonstrations, share friendly conversations and gain information.  Meals will be provided.  Please register at no cost: info@perma-liner.com or 1-866-336-2568.
